Ways To Become A Digital Nomad And Work Remotely

This is a guide for you to join the world of working and traveling at the same time. If you want to say goodbye to your 9 to 5 job and enjoy the flexibility to schedule your own day.

1) Reflect: What are your strengths?

Some of you already know what they are good in doing best. There are several job opportunities that opened up not only for developers, but as well in the areas of Marketing, Customer Support, Sales, Project Management and the list goes further. So there are a lot of opportunities out there for you where you can apply to. Think about the added value you can give to a company and at the same time what do you like to do in your free time – then combine those two.

2) Online Presence: Create online profiles

For some of you it seems obvious but a lot still did not fine-tune their online presence. One of the most important platforms to start with is LinkedIn. Having your work experience listed on LinkedIn is great, because you can apply to a lot of companies with only one click. Besides LinkedIn there are platforms that are more focused on remote work positions. One of them is Upwork. There you can create a profile and find jobs in any area of work. On top do we have the platform AngelList, where you can filter jobs by remote working positions.

3) Join Communities: Facebook Groups

You can join several Facebook groups that share the same interest as yours. There are likeminded people that like to share experiences, job openings and other helpful insights that help you out.

The first job might be a bit of a challenge for you since you are not used to have this freedom and need to organise yourself. In terms of organisation I had difficulties in the beginning to structure my day and set priorities. There are many helpful tools that help you through this more challenging time. I discovered Trello (Project Management) & Slack (Communication) for myself. On Trello is where I create multiple boards for different projects I am working. You can add other external members to your board and create a space to collaborate together.
